I thought that his story was very interesting and intriguing. I think when his students alwasy ask him why he does it? I feel like our profession as teachers is questioned a lot. Most people just think we are babysitting their kids or even worse, that we do not care about the children. What people do not realize about teachers, is that we are the ones who shape and teach our next generation who will one day be leading the world. People always forget that the reason we are all going to be teachers, is because we want to make a difference in at least one child's life if not more. We do it for the children.
ADMITTANCE TO A BETTER LIFE:
This piece I really liked because it shows the struggles of what it means to be educated. It shows this man's journey to a better life and how he made the decision to better himself. Going to school and getting good grades was not the "thing" to do, but he kept an open mind about education itself to pursue his drive to recieve a better education. My favorite line that he says is "I believe I am the living embodiment of the power of education to change a man," It just goes to show how the power of education can change on man's life in a heartbeat.
THIS I BELIEVE:
This passage was really talking about what it means to be educated. In the girl's eyes she really made her point clear on how education does not necessarily have to do with knowledge. She talked about how her grandmother had never been educated before yet had taught her so many valuable life lessons. Education is a privelage and her grandmother obviously did not have that privelage yet she has made a life for herself and made an impact on the younger generations of her family.
